Call for Papers:
The Gender and Sexual Diversity Symposium
March 28-29, 2014 in The Loft
4th Floor MacEwan Hall, The University of Calgary
Deadline for Applications: February 21, 2014
The Institute for Gender Research and the Women’s Studies Program invite emerging researchers and community members to participate in our Gender and Sexual Diversity Symposium. This symposium aims to bring together members of the campus community with local artists, activists and related groups to share research, best practices, and methods of scholarly, community engagement from an intersectional and inclusive feminist perspective. Our goal is to advance knowledge of gender and sexual diversity and to recognize its centrality to understanding and positively influencing human dynamics in a changing world.
Details on submissions and online forms are available on our website (http://ucalgary.ca/gendersex2014/submissions). All submissions will be peer-reviewed by the organizing committee. The symposium will feature a variety of formats for sharing research and resources. Proposals are welcome for the following presentation formats:
Panel presentations on major research themes
Poster presentations on individual / group research projects
Round-table discussions on activism and scholarship
Workshops on doing gender and sexual diversity
Eligibility for Participation as a Presenter:
Since the symposium is focusing on emergent research and community engagement, presenters will be limited to those comprising the following groups, who can demonstrate a commitment to gender and sexual diversity:
Senior undergraduate students
Artists and Activists
Non-tenured and contract academic staff
Tenured academic staff are invited to participate as respondents, convenors, and chairs.
All topics and subject matter pertaining to gender and sexual diversity are welcome. We will do our best to include as many presenters as possible. We encourage those interested to propose full sessions with no more than four speakers in panel presentations, five speakers in round-tables, and three facilitators in workshops.
On Friday, March 28th, we invite all campus and community groups with a mandate in diversity to join together for a Diversity Discourse Night. It will feature a series of lightning round presentations and break-out sessions on what gender and sexual diversity means to you and how the University of Calgary can become a part of your vision.
